Public Health starts ambitious push for cannabis expansion for chronic disorders
Chair Klick says her intent is “truly to have a program based on medial science.” Meantime, some conservative groups push back, arguing it’s just the next step to legally smoking pot in Texas
Advocates testified before the Texas House Public
Health Committee this morning, urging members to pass a bill expanding cannabis
use for people with chronic conditions and people with “debilitating conditions
as defined by the Department of State Health Services.”
Chairwoman Stephanie Klick’s House Bill 1805
would also protect and raise amount from one to five percent. Senate Water,
Agriculture, & Rural Affairs Chairman Charles Perry has
filed companion legislation.
Numerous veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and
other disabilities said the compassionate use program, established in 2015, has
helped with their pain.
