THECB ramps up progress on data use in education choices

Texas, despite almost three decades of data collection, has hardly made a foray into the complex data analysis being undertaken in other states

Texas’ obsession with the collection of education data is decades old and legendary. Soon, that data might prove to be a far smarter guide to college completion.

A total of $15 million from the state’s federal CARES Act dollars has been carved out to update the state’s infrastructure for educational data. Commissioner of Higher Education and CEO of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Harrison Keller told the Senate Higher Education Committee this week that the proper use of data helps both the student in the short term and the state in the long term.
