Mayor Rawlings assures Texas House lawmakers Dallas pension fund is on its way to solvency
At this stage the mayor is hesitant to recommend any changes to statute; Over the next 35 years, the city will contribute $8.2 billion to bring the pension fund to actuarial soundness
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings assured the Texas
Pensions Committee in Dallas that the city’s police and fire
pension fund was in a far better place than it was when lawmakers approved an
overhaul of the fund’s financing and governance at the end of last session.
A number of non-House Pension
Committee members, including Senators Royce West, D-Dallas, and Don
Huffines, R-Dallas, were in the audience at Dallas City Hall
for Rawlings’ update. The Dallas mayor said it was too early – eight months
into implementation – to suggest any changes to House Bill 3158,
but Rawlings said he had strong confidence in the fund’s new leadership.
