Food box proposal from Trump finds its foes
The Farm Bureau is cautious: “While there are some frustrations with the budget – and taking fruits and vegetables out of SNAP would fit this view – we also are very mindful that Congress will write the budget”
The Trump administration has proposed replacing a portion
of food stamps with “harvest boxes,” with the irony being that little in the
box would come from a fresh harvest.
The idea of replacing a portion of benefits with a Blue
Apron-style box has been generally panned today by the media and advocates.
Budget director Mick Mulvaney said the idea of a “food box” program came
directly from the US Department of Agriculture.
